In today's reading in Mark's Gospel (Mk 2:1-12), Jesus shows us how to anticipate the rebuttals of those blinded by their prejudices, those who hear but do not listen.
Harry Truman i believe once said, "if you can't convince them, confuse them" - The ability of one to rise
"Jesus immediately knew in his mind what they were thinking to themselves"- The beauty of anticipation. Christ, all mighty and powerful, refrained from using much words to convince them and those who did it ought to be punished for they have blasphemed.
Jesus responds by showing us that ONLY with a PURIFICATION OF THE SOUL (free of sin), a purified body follows (free of handicaps). And thus our handicaps (whether visible (leprosy, paralysis or not (spiritual blindness)) prevents us from RISING above the world's way of view, PICKING UP OUR MAT (reminding us of our mere beginnings of flawed and handicapped beings made clean by the Christ), and walk according to His ways.
The moral of the story: Who was more handicapped: The paralytic or the scribes?
At a boy to those 4 men for carrying the paralytic. Their faith is a model- for love of God, (desire to get as close to Jesus as possible) and love of neighbour (that they willed for the paralytic to be made clean).
I LOVE THIS PASSAGE, BEAUTIFUL!
